Short Chapter Version
AFA is a volunteer-led organization working to communicate key national security issues at the national, state, and local levels. The top-level support from the Secretary of the Air Force, Chief of Staff of the Air Force, Chief Master Sergeant of the Air Force, Director of the Air National Guard, and Chief of the Air Force Reserve help us fulfill this goal. Our more than 200 chapters across the country drive community awareness about the impact of the Air Force through elections and a variety of programs. From our national headquarters in Arlington, VA, the AFA staff organizes programs ranging from conference and symposia to aerospace education initiatives and advocacy efforts with Congressional leaders.

Marcene Glover, of Johnstown, unveiled her painting, “Glory of the Flight,” including both Wagner and the Curtiss P-40 Warhawk he flew to become the Army Air Corps’ first flying ace of World War II.The painting was commissioned by retired Gen. Conway Jones of Oakland, California. Jones arranged for the painting to hang in the Pentagon office of the Secretary of the Air Force.
Paul Jacobs, a 1966 graduate of Greater Johnstown High School recently painted and donated his painting entitled “First Ace” depicting local WWII hero Buzz Wagner’s most notable flight. The artist, himself a former Air Force career officer, and aerospace engineer, traveled from his home in Montclair, Va to his hometown during this year’s Showcase for Commerce to present the painting to the Buzz Wagner Chapter of the Air Force Association for permanent display in the city.
